Biografía

Composer and pedagogue

In 1858, aiming to broaden his musical training, he went to Paris and extended his stay at least until 1860, when he published the nocturnal Un coeur gémissant for piano. After his return to Barcelona, he was an active promoter of the city’s musical life: he founded and presided the Monte-Pío Artístico Barcelonés and associated himself with the Wagner Society of Barcelona created in 1870. In 1854 he composed music and wrote the libretto for the zarzuela Las apariencias engañan. He is also the author of a considerable number of piano pieces, such as the schotisch El sueño de oro, the nocturno A la orilla del mar and Un coeur gémissant, published in Paris in 1860. Furthermore, he composed the meditation El arpa angélica, which was awarded at the Jocs Floral in Seville in 1875 and is dedicated to the harpist Clotilde Cerdà. In the field of music theory, he published the solfeggio method in two volumes: Método analítico para el estudio del solfeo (1862) and Método de solfeo analítico, fácil y conciso (1868), edited by Joan Budó.
