In 1862 he settled in Barcelona. He studied piano under Joan Baptista Pujol and composition under Gabriel Balart. He continued his musical training in Paris under G. J. After a stay in Madrid where he gave piano recitals, he settled in Barcelona and performed at the 1888 Universal Exposition.

As a composer, he composed stage and symphonic music for voice and piano, as well as an extensive repertoire for solo piano. In 1873 he composed the zarzuela L’adroger del Padró and in 1880, Fantasía nocturno and Esperanza won awards. In 1905 he premiered the opera Inés de Castro at the Liceu.

In 1891 he obtained a position as piano teacher at the Liceu Conservatory and published didactic works such as the Estudis catacterístics per a piano. Júlia Sicard, Josep Cumellas, Josep Barberà and Joaquim Vidal were among his students.
